Blues Matters
When you hear comments such as the above from two of the worlds’ greatest guitar players and one of the leading UK guitar magazines you just know they have heard something very special. Twenty-five year old Ben Poole is currently being described as the most exciting young blues guitarist to come out of the UK for a long, long time.
The past few years has seen Ben Poole’s profile raise far beyond expectation, his name cropping up regularly in Europe’s biggest selling guitar magazine Total Guitar who named Ben as “the guitarist to watch out for”.
Ben was voted ‘Best Newcomer’ by Blues Matters magazine in their 2011 readers poll, was nominated for three awards at the British Blues Awards in 2011, including Best Young Artist and Best Original Song and he will be representing the UK at the 2012 European Blues Challenge to be held in Berlin in March.
Following on from the success of his debut EP EVERYTHING I WANT, Ben is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut album which is being produced by Grammy Award winning producer Isaac Nossel and is due for release later in the spring.
The new CD marks a move towards Ben Poole being known not just a superb guitarist but also a great singer and song writer and this is what producer Isaac has really bought out in him. On the album seven of the songs will be Ben Poole originals, two are co-writes with producer Isaac and three are covers including the Otis Redding/Steve Cropper song Mr. Pitiful and the Anne Peebles original I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down with which Paul Young had a top 10 hit way back in 1984. Joining Ben on the album are Ben’s regular band-mates British Blues Award nominee Alan Taylor on drums and Barry Pethers on bass, and he’s also joined by Ruf Records recording artist Dani Wilde on backing vocals on six of the twelve tracks.
In 2011 Ben played regularly across the UK and at some of the biggest festivals in Europe including two appearances at the 2011Glastonbury Festival. He was also to be seen blowing away classic rock fans at Rhodes Rock in Greece and is also booked to play at the Legends of Rock UK Weekender in March 2012, both events supported by Planet Rock radio. Ben will once again be touring Europe in 2012 with festivals and shows booked in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Greece and of course the UK.
