JEBO
Public-i's Thursday Eagle, 1 April 2004
Well. I've worked with a few bands in my time and seen a few more.
And as one who audience watches quite a lot too I could see that JEBO were in for an "under the microscope" session. Tonight's crowd was full of musicians and a variety of precious and particular performers. What the investigation revealed was a band that should never worry about what an expose may throw up. Here is a group that is just that. A group. Not just a bunch of independent isolated individuals waiting their turn to play but a fusion of accomplished musicianship that complimented all the strengths on show. Their music is professionally driven - their ethos appears to be in giving each carefully crafted piece what it needs - not what any one element may want. Don't get me wrong there is sentiment here but used sparingly and not just token gushing to appease the masses. They know how to write and they know to play. They also know how to communicate their talents to their audience. And there you have it. What started as a crowd ended as a unified audience - JEBO's audience. Whereas some bands take themselves seriously and shouldn't - JEBO take music and response seriously - resulting in undeniable respect from those who have rarely seen modesty and talent unified so sweetly.

JEBO
(pronounce and acknowledge the J will you!)
For all those that complain that truly exceptional live rock bands do not exist you are so very, very wrong.
The extremely accomplished JEBO donned the stage and played an extensive set, I never thought men had such stamina! Dumbstruck at the sheer professionalism and presentation of finely crafted music I was in awe. Even the lack of audience did not prejudice the delivery.
An eclectic mix of complementing sounds, thought provoking lyrics with woeful yet hope-inspiring melodies transported me to a happy place. A place where maybe all music sounds this good.
The power, which flowed so evidently through their songs, was not conveyed just because it was loud. It was the fine balance of bass, drums, guitar, Hammond and emotionally crisp vocals working in perfect harmony. A gift, a formula, so many have not managed to grasp transcending any foregone expectations.
'Sinking without You' with its infectious lyrics is a sheer piece of brilliance. It was second nature to sing along by the second chorus and later that night I caught myself humming the song as if I'd known it all my life.
Unlike vintage wines that get better with time, I cannot think how they can improve, only progress. JEBO have bottled the essence of live music and set a precedent of how it should be. It can readily be poured into the ears of anyone willing to listen, time and time again. Each time savouring it as if it was your first taste. Yet as with all delicacies in life, you are always thirsty for more, as the case is so evident from tonight.
A truly fantastic band and thoroughly nice blokes to match.
Thank you JEBO.
Please, please come again.
