Medicine Hat
New Zealand born singer/song writer Mark Jackson harnessed his furious passion for outlaw country and southern rock music with London based guitarist/producer Steve Loveday whose credits include music for Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Pelican Brief.
The pair recruited drummer Garry Bowler and guitarist Mark Wright and formed ‘Medicine Hat’ - a name fished out of the Saskatchewan River in Canada, and which captures the band’s spirit perfectly. An EP titled ‘C’mon Here’ was released on major label ‘Gut Reaction Records’ and resulted in widespread airplay. Bass guitarist Lol Dalzeil and keyboardist James Whiteman joined the band in 1999 to complete what is now a 6 piece line-up
Halo UK Records approached the band in 2001 and a deal was agreed for their representation. The track “I Still Bleed” was taken from the album and released as a single with an accompanying video, shot in Spain. This received comprehensive play listings including Channel 4 and Channel 5.
After touring Italy in 2002 the band flew to its name sake city of Medicine Hat, (Alberta, Canada) in 2003, and performed at the legendary Sandfly Festival in front of 8000 rocking revellers. Comprehensive airplay coincided with the band’s visit and has continued since. A new single “Too Far Gone”, (with a high quality video shot in London), was released along with an extremely well received ‘Live’ album – initially distributed in Canada and the USA.
While still keeping their hand in with a few live dates, the band spent most of 2004 writing new material and recording a new studio album. The “Too Far Gone” single and “Live” album is distributed in the UK, and the single has also appeared on various compilation albums. Several magazines, radio and TV features have also accompanied the UK release and a new single – a cover of Bob Seger’s classic ‘Old Time Rock And Roll’ was released 13/12/04 just in time for the festive party season.
