MOSTLY AUTUMN CHRISTMAS CHEER AT THE JUNCTION

Surely one of the country’s little known jewels of the Celtic Rock/classic rock scene played The Junction on Thursday night. Mostly Autumn, who regularly attend The Cambridge Rock Festival, held 250 people enthralled playing two sets of their new album and all of their classics. To those who missed this gig and have not yet heard of the band, they comprise of eight members fronted by Bryan Josh on Lead Guitar. The hauntingly beautiful singing of Heather Findlay was in evidence throughout and particularly in the songs from “Glass Shadows”, the new CD and old classics such as “Evergreen” This song in particular showed Mostly Autumn at their best as it starts off as a slow ballad and crescendos up to a full blown rock classic.

The crowd, who were obviously fans from all over the south East of England were not disappointed as they are a core following. What must disappoint though is the lack of new followers of the band. This IS a quality act and The Junction is an ideal venue for listening to such an act. The Cambridge community at large missed the powerful “Heroes Never Die” which had the crowd roaring as MA finished their set. It is hoped that the Band will see The Junction as a regular venue on their annual November/December tours and in future it is a show definitely not to be missed.

A band that consists of consummate musicians, featuring Guitars, keyboards, flutes, pipes and drums is always a pleasure to see and hear and the Band entered into the Christmas spirit with great covers of Kirsty McColl and The Pogues “Fairytale in New York” and Slade’s “Merry Christmas Everybody” to finish. What a great way to start the Festive season!
