Siskin 04

siskin

Hi everyone,

It is with enormous regret that I confirm Siskin have split. It was probably the most difficult decision any of us have ever had to make, but things couldn't continue as they were and sadly calling it a day seems to be the only option.

We've had an amazing time though, in our 19 months together (doesn't sound much when I put it like that!) we've practically lived in each others pockets, played 59 gigs, recorded 2 EP's, met some great people, played some amazing venues (and one or two not so amazing venues...), indulged in many drunken antics together and generally had a fantastic time. Also, without Siskin I would never have been introduced to the extremely talented musicians; and more importantly genuinely close friends that have been Katie Ward, Jon Ford and Gareth Beaty. And we part on enormously good terms, and will do everything we can to stay in touch. Not too sure what happens now - I guess we'll just find new bands and start again, but we'll be around...

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who has ever come to a gig, brought a CD, listened to a song of ours, asked how we're doing, supported us when we needed you...we've had a wonderful time and I hope it showed.

Take care, and thanks again,

SISKIN x
katie, jon, gareth, paul and michelle.

Siskin are a female-fronted indie/pop band based in Cambridgeshire. We formed in July 2003 and have received many plaudits for our songs and live performances. So, if you like great tunes played with energy, personality and passion, hitch a ride and let's see where this journey can take us.

The Music
We play original songs that everyone can relate to, featuring elements of indie, pop and rock, with thoughtful lyrics wrapped around melodies that won't leave your brain. We are inspired by all good melodic music, ranging from The Beatles to Coldplay, but we are already cultivating a unique sound of our own, built on the powerful, emotive voice of vocalist Katie, and the distinctive playing styles of drummer Paul, bassist Jon and guitarist Gareth.

The Band
We were formed by Whittlesey musician and songwriter Michelle Bessant. Paul was the first piece in the jigsaw, with Jon and Gareth next aboard. Katie beat off competition nationwide to land the job of lead singer.

The Story So Far
siskin (which means 'small songbird'), have come a long way in a relatively short time. In October 2003 we recorded our debut EP, and since then we have performed over 50 gigs, including the Cambridge Corn Exchange, Carling Islington Bar Academy, London, Leicester University summer ball (headlined by Jools Holland and Girls Aloud) and, of course, the Rockinbeerfest.
We're now recording our new CD - featuring the tracks Catch, A Better Place and Solid Ground - which should be completed early in 2005.
