Wilko Johnson

The Original “Man in Black”

“One of the best rhythm guitarists in the world”-Cosmopolitan

As we move into 2005 there’s one thing for sure:Wilko Johnson will still be wowing the audiences up and down the country with his unique brand of R’n’B based rock.

Canvey Island’s most famous son has been making some of the most influential music in this country since the ‘70’s. With his innovative and accomplished guitar style, he has been a mentor to a host of Punk and new wave guitarists and continues to inspire musicians today.

Not since the wave of British R’n’B groups in the 60’s has one man evolved a more personal and distinctive music from the basic elements of blues and rock & roll.

Wilko is lean mean and totally wired as evidenced by his exciting live shows which showcase songs from throughout his illustrious career and into the infinite future. His latest album ‘Back in The Night’ (Jungle Records) is a “best of” collection featuring many of the songs that made him famous.

The perfect onstage foil for Wilko is Norman Watt-Roy who should need no introduction. Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished bass players in the country, Norman shot to fame in Ian Dury & The Blockheads and has contributed his considerable talents to recordings by artists as diverse as The Clash and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

The power trio is completed by Monti another ex-Blockhead and Canvey Island original who has played drums with many cutting edge bands including the Cocteau Twins, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Curve.
